Hi Friends,

It was good to be together yesterday.  I was freshly reminded of the importance of gathering as a body, so that we be nourished by one another as we experience the Lord together.

Tongues and Prophecy

During our time of singing, I took some time to share some teaching regarding how we seek to practice the spiritual gifts of tongues and prophecy in our corporate gathering.  I won’t give an apologetic here for the ongoing presence of these gifts in the life of the church, but here are a few good articles to read if you have questions: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/continuationist/, https://continuationism.com/2010/03/03/the-case-for-continuationism-sam-storms/, https://continuationism.com/2010/03/04/the-case-for-continuationism-part-2-sam-storms/, https://bcsmn.edu/archive-video/sam-storms-dont-quench-spirit-pascon2018/.

I addressed our desire to apply, “So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But all things should be done decently and in order.” (1Co 14:39-40 ESV)  How we seek to do things, “decently and in order” is to have a church member who feels that the Lord is prompting them to share something come up to the pastor sitting in the front row and share with him what is on their heart.  The pastor will then pray and seek to discern the Lord’s leading and timing.  If the timing is right, the individual’s burden is in accordance with Scripture and the Spirit seems to affirm that it needs to be shared with the church, the church member will be given the ministry mic so that they can share their sense of what the Lord has put on their heart.  Our desire is to let this help us encourage the use of these spiritual gifts, while at the same time, making sure things are done in an orderly way as commanded by Scripture.

Women’s Support Group

I am very excited for the new women’s support group that we are starting, led by Jeanine Lisitski.  This is for any woman who has is impacted by a loved one’s addiction (husband, child, boyfriend, extended family, household member, etc).  It will take place every other Friday night starting this Friday, November 8th from 7:30 to 9pm.  Please consider this as a resource for yourself, if applicable, and as a resource you can share with your neighbors.

Sermon Application Questions

  1. What in your life empowers the voice of unbelief in your heart?
  2. What is one takeaway from the sermon that you want to think about more as you seek to fight unbelief in your life?
  3. Who are you willing to talk about these things with?
